Yilin (Gevin) Zhu UX designer

Microsoft (Xbox) and Tencent internships, 2026 MSc UX Design, Wilfrid Laurier

I design software for complex, technical work.

01 Ordinal Live since July 2026. 3,281 universities in the build of 18 Oct 2026.

Work

Console Interaction Study

A comparison of Xbox and NEX Playground, with two prototypes.

  • Research
  • Case study in progress
Type
Games hardware / research
Role
Research, synthesis, two prototypes

TimeFold

A phone app prototype for keeping memories: daily capture, chapters, a yearly recap and a room for replaying them in VR.

  • Prototype
  • Mobile

Course project, team of five. 36 screens in seven flows, shown in a web shell that steps through each flow. Built in Figma Make.

Type
Consumer app / AI and VR
Role
Most of the design, design system, prototype shell

Brdger

A career platform for new graduates: resume tools, role matching, an application tracker and warm introductions.

  • Not live
  • Web prototype

Team project in Figma Make. A teammate wrote the brief and the information architecture and supplied the logo and palette. 110 of the 119 prompts in the build log are mine. The landing page numbers are labelled as goals, because none of them had been reached.

Type
Careers / job search
Role
Landing page, visual system, mobile layout

How I build with Claude

Product direction, design decisions, the design system and the data policy are mine. Research legwork, data capture and code were done with Claude (AI) under that direction.

  • 1,833

CardCompare data corrections, each written only after I approved it.

  • 125,248

renders checked by Ordinal's scale-honesty script, with 0 failures. Run by Claude on the build of 3,296 universities.

Read the write-up

Architecture taught me the constraint. UX taught me the person.

Five years of architectural studies at the University of Toronto were five years of drawing systems other people had to build: sets that had to stay consistent, circulation that had to survive real feet, drawings a contractor could argue with. Software turned out to be the same job with a faster feedback loop.

I like the problems where the interface has to answer to something physical underneath it: a medication schedule, or a controller in someone's hands.

Currently: MSc User Experience Design at Wilfrid Laurier, with systems engineering coursework alongside it.
